Mayer Wet Film Applicator Wand 5/8 Diameter
- DESCRIPTION
-
Mayer Rod formed.
Total length: "16".
Film width: "12".
Reduction rods, also known as a film applicator, reduction bar, reduction card or Mayer rod, give users the ability to adjust coating thickness quickly and easily, without altering the chemistry of their coating material. and without costly and time-consuming changes. The formed rod is machined from solid steel rod and closely resembles our wire wound rods. They provide extremely precise metered coatings on films, tin, rubber, boards, plastics, glass, textiles and more .
Characteristics:- No cables to break.
- Easier cleaning.
- Less expensive.
- Even spacing.
- Little change in overall diameter.
-
Formed: The grooves have a wide radius at the bottom (like a "U").
- Wire Wound: The "valley" between the windings comes to a point (like a "V").
Technical data Center: 303 stainless steel
Wire: 302 stainless steel
Center diameter: +0 to -0.5 mils
Wire diameter: +0 to -0.5 mils
Core Straightness: 0.006"/12"
Drags are an economical method of making laboratory samples to determine coating thickness, substrate penetration, fluid compatibility, bond strength, etc. Drag rods allow the technician to perform these tests with a minimum of effort. The procedure is the next:-
Attach (or tape) a sample of the most suitable substrate to the glass surface of the Drawdown plate.
- Using a spatula, place a small puddle of coating liquid near the top of the sample sheet.
-
Immediately grab the ends of the reduction rod. Using the thumbs of both hands to prevent the rod from bowing or bending away from the sample, pull the rod down through the liquid pool spreading and metering the fluid across the sample sheet. As stretching is performed, observe the behavior of the coating and any possible reaction with the substrate. (Note: It may be convenient to construct a small cardboard tray to catch excess liquid as it is drawn toward the bottom edge of the drawing board.) Immerse the wand in the cleaning tray after use.
-
The coated sample is now ready for testing.
- If the coating application is too thin, use a rod with a larger diameter wire. Therefore, if the coating is too thick, use a rod with a smaller diameter wire.
