6160 Oscillation Abrasion Equipment

The model 6160 (replaces the model 6100) is based on the "oscillating sand tester". The instrument is used to measure the relative resistance or susceptibility of a material to surface abrasion and scratching caused by an oscillating abrasive medium.

Samples are mounted in a holder located at the bottom of a tray that is filled to a uniform depth with a standardized abrasive medium. The tray moves alternately back and forth, which causes the entire mass of the abrasive medium to be displaced. With the optional Bayer test kit, the model 6160 can determine the abrasion resistance of ophthalmic lenses.
