SAM type stylus adapter for loop stylus and Stylus . Scratch Adhesion Mark Tester Accessory.

Before using the SAM tester equipped with the Balanced Beam stylus adapter, ensure that the stylus of your choice is installed and that the fulcrum is in the correct position for high or low range. Set the desired load on the pencil by loosening the locking nut and turning the dial to the desired value. Retighten the lock nut being careful not to change the reading set on the dial. Hold the lower edge of the instrument against the test surface with enough force to overcome the load on the pencil. Maintaining this force, move the instrument along the test surface at a speed of 0.5 to 1.0 inches per second.

If the coating is not damaged in the initial test, continue testing using successively higher needle loads until the desired coating failure results are observed.

Both the loop and needle are produced from 1/16 inch tool steel, heat treated to a hardness of Rockwell C 58 to 60 and then polished. The loop needle has an outside radius of 0.128". The needle has a 1.00mm diameter tip.

Warning: Do not exchange the loop or stylus between the Balanced Beam Tester (Model 2197A) and the SAM Tester. The overall pencil length for the Balanced Beam Tester (model 2197A) is 1.000" with an extension beyond the fixture of 0.375". The overall length of the pen for SAM Tester is 0.440" with an extension beyond the adapter of 0.190" .
