The abrasion boat is designed to hold in place against a flat surface any flexible material being used against the test surface. The abrasion boat can be used with any of the Gardco models. The machine's drive fork can carry two abrasion boats at a time for multiple sample testing.
All parts of the abrasion boat are made of stainless steel and consist of a base plate, a cover with adjustable anchor bolts and an auxiliary weight. Baseplate measures 2.0" wide, 4.0" long, and 0.25" thick. Can be attached with any flexible material 2" wide and between 6" and 8" long, held in place by squeezing the cover against the base plate. . The assembly weighs 16 ounces with the auxiliary weight in place, providing a load against the test surface of 2.0 ounces per square inch.
The friction boat is identical to the abrasion boat and are interchangeable. An auxiliary weight (WA-2227) increases its usefulness for friction measurement and doubles the load against the test surface. Most flexible materials can be attached to the friction boat base. The surface of the material secured to the vessel or the surface on which it sails may be considered the test surface.
The weight of the friction boat without the internal auxiliary weight is one pound, providing a unit area load of 2 ounces per square inch. The internal stainless steel auxiliary weight increases the friction boat weight to two pounds for a surface load of 4 ounces per square inch.
